Food looks and tastes bare without spices. Doesn't it.!!!??? Spices add life to the food. 

National Nutritional Week is celebrated in the 1st week of  September every year. This year's theme is World Of Flavors, which helps promote healthy living and lifestyle.

There are different herbs used across the world. These include Thyme, Basil, Rosemary, Oregano, Galangal, Horseradish, Wasabi, Lemongrass, Parsley, etc.,

Benefits 

  • It is believed that spices generally boost immunity, improve digestion, aid metabolism and accelerate weight loss, and so on.
  • A combination of the desired amount of herbs and spices within our regular diet aids in delivering maximum health benefits 
  • Spices and Herbs possess various properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial, these help the body develop a strong immunity.


Precautions

  • Although spices and known to boost immunity, they should always be consumed in moderation.
  • They Should never be taken on an empty stomach or consumed first thing in the morning. This may lead to sensitivity of the stomach.
  • Continuous consumption or Overdose may lead to adverse effects such as acid reflux, inflammation of GIT(Gastro Intestinal Tract), and Heart Burn. Abdominal discomfort, etc .,


Emphasizing On Indian spices

  • Indian food is a unique blend of flavors.
  • Indian Cuisine gets its unique taste, from a variety of most commonly used spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, cumin, carom seeds, bay-leaf, turmeric, star Anise, Pepper(black & White), Sesame Seeds, Safron, Asafoetida(Hing) etc., 
  • It is a Lesser known fact that spices can be consumed throughout the year, each and every spice has its own seasonal benefits and should be used, accordingly, for maximum benefits.

Spices help us stay healthy, but only when consumed in moderation.


Spices and Herbs for Summer



  • Corriander, Fennel, Fenugreek
  • Cumin powder in a glass of buttermilk
  • The above spices are known for their cooling effects. It keeps us refreshed and energized by maintaining optimal body temperature.


Spices and Herbs for Winter & Monsoon



  • Carom Seeds (Ajwain), Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Clove, Sesame Seeds, Safron.
  • These are potent winter spices, which help in retaining body heat during winter.
  • These can be added to herbal teas, soups, broth, salads, etc.,
  • However, they need to be used in moderation.
